Emmy Award- and Pulitzer Prize-winning Cuban-American photojournalist, Director of Photography, video editor, and mixed media artist based in South Florida. With 29+ years of experience, Taimy is dedicated to telling powerful stories that amplify marginalized voices and document pivotal moments.
Through her company, Taimy Alvarez Media LLC, she has led visual storytelling projects for major outlets including INSIDER, The Washington Post, USA Today, Associated Press, Go Traveler, and the South Florida Sun Sentinel. Her documentary style blends journalistic rigor with cinematic visuals to create emotionally resonant narratives.
Taimy is currently Director of Photography, photojournalist, and segment editor for WaterVoyagers, a globally streamed travel series on Go Traveler and Travel Escapes. The show explores iconic cruise ships and vibrant port cultures worldwide. Previously, she held the same roles on SailTrek, capturing Caribbean culture aboard a tall ship.
She also produced original digital video series for INSIDER, including Risky Business and So Expensive, exploring global subcultures and unique economies.
Taimy’s investigative work earned a 2017 Suncoast Regional Emmy for The Gulf’s Deadly Harvest, and in 2018, she was part of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Sun Sentinel team covering the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting.
In 2023, she directed and edited Crossing the Waters: The Impact of Bahamian Pioneers in South Florida, an official selection at Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival and finalist at NewFilmmakers NY.
A University of Florida graduate with a BS in Photojournalism and minor in Women’s Studies, Taimy has also taught as an adjunct professor at Florida Atlantic University.
Beyond journalism, Taimy creates multidisciplinary art blending photography, painting, and textiles, with recent work showcased in the Gasper Arts Center’s Hispanic Heritage Exhibition.
She is a dynamic enrichment and destination speaker represented by Blackburn International, appearing regularly on major cruise lines like Carnival and Celebrity Cruises. Her multimedia presentations cover photography, art, cuisine, history, culture, and global destinations—using storytelling to connect, inspire, and deepen appreciation of our shared world.
